Photo Friday: The Ice Hotel Quebec

This trip to Quebec was one that celebrated winter instead of escaped it! Photos bring you right back to the experience at that moment. Looking at this picture from last winter, I relived the excitement that we all felt when we went to stay at the Ice Hotel. We were nervous, excited, cold-filled with the adrenaline that the unexpected can bring!

Family travel for me is about many things, but certainly one is creating shared memories that will hopefully last a lifetime – there’s no question about this one! Let me start by saying that the Ice Hotel is a sight worth seeing. From the architecture and design to the way the light passes through the structure is truly awe inspiring. That said, don’t say there with kids. It was as terrifying as it was amazing, which is part of the reason it will always be a vivid memory of something we accomplished/survived as a family. My kids may not remember the night of worrying about hypothermia, but they will remember how as a group we always look for new and unique experiences.

The rest of the trip we enjoyed the lovely hot coco and pool at the Fairmont Frontenac – a much better place to slumber. Check out more of this week’s family travel photos on Photo Friday.

    I have always wanted to stay at an ice hotel, but I always wondered about the temperature… I will be sure to pack my long underwear. Ciao!

    A definite must on my travel list–see an ice hotel! You sound like I would be! Checking my kids fingers and toes all night!

    I had no idea there was an Ice Hotel in Quebec. Thanks for sharing this – I’m adding this to my list-of-places to visit.

    We loved Quebec City (last visited for a couple days on the way out to Newfoundland a few years ago). Visiting during the winter and seeing the Ice Hotel is definitely one of the things on my list of places I really want to visit!

    Too cool! ;) I love Quebec City, but also did not know about their ice hotel.

    This summer on a gorgeous sunny day, we loooved visiting the Ice Bar in Stockholm with our 7 year old. I actually posted a picture on twitpic under Soultravelers3, that I posted on one Friday Photo not long ago.

    It was cold inside too, so they provide warm parkas to wear over one’s summer clothes. We had a blast and then went back into the sun, so it is nice to know that we did not miss anything by not going to the original Ice Hotel in Lapland in Sweden.

    It is only open in the winter and looks neat, but freezing is not my idea of fun. The Ice Bar gives a great taste to the uniqueness ( even a flatscreen TV in ice! ) without any hypothemia worries. ;)
