Photo Friday: London Eye

This week’s photos were taken from the London Eye. On the first day we were in London, we went to the London Eye as a way to get an overview of the city.  Although it was raining, it happened to clear up enough to get some great shots.

Now these views were great and it was a unique way to take in the city, but I have to say that my kids didn’t love the London Eye. Given that the London Eye is on every single “must-do” list for kids in London, this could just be my kids. They actually thought it was boring because it moved so slowly and they really didn’t know the sights well enough to identify what they were seeing.  I think that they were expecting more of a ferris wheel experience. In hindsight, this may have been a better activity for the end of our stay so the kids would be able to locate the places that they had visited.

    Sounds like you all had a good time, and timing. The lighting looks great and the sky is clear!

    We missed the London Eye last time we were in London and my kids have been bugging me to go on it when we go back this summer – but I think you’re right. It’s slow paced for kids and looks like it’s going to be a real fairground ride type experience from the ground, so can be quite disappointing – still we’ll give it a try. The views certainly look amazing!

    Great pics! We are taking our kids to London in a few months and I will take your advice and go on the London Eye at end of our trip so that the kids can identify the sites that they visited!

    I lived in london over 18 years ago, and I never saw this place. I wonder how old it is, it’s great!

    That’s a great tip about visiting toward the end of the trip. Might help them understand better the sites that they have visited.

    Also thanks for the honest review. I think different kids have different interests. Not everyone will love the must-see on the list. :)

    Fun to see how the exterior of the Eye looks. Sounds like a must-do if we ever get overseas again and visit London.

    The London Eye is magnificent – 10 yrs old and still the largest side supported observation wheel in the world! And even better if you have a London Blue Badge Tourist Guide with you to tell you loads of fascinating and little known facts and point out all the sites of London!

    Clare- You are right! A guide would have made it so much better! These pictures are still some of the coolest from our trip.
