It’s good to be a kid on a family vacation in Napa. That’s right. Northern California Wine Country is scoring points with milk drinkers and more importantly, their wine-loving parents. Visiting Napa Valley with kids is more the norm than the exception to the rule here.

The Northern California Wine Country and kids it seems are becoming fast friends. Plagued by an anti-family reputation for years, the area’s starting to score points with families. Case and point is the Silverado Resort and Spa, known as a leading destination in Napa Valley for adults to play golf and tennis. Starting this summer, kids get their own slice of the action, which makes Silverado Resort a great choice for families planning a Napa Valley family vacation.

There’s more to the Northern California Wine Country than just grapes and well-traveled parents may know it better than any other visitors. While more and more wineries like Coppola, Castello di Amorosa and Chalk Hill are raising the bar when it comes to making wine country more family friendly, summer is the time of year when the area really heats up, especially if you’re a kid lucky enough to land a spot in the Kids’ Culinary Camps at Ramekins.

When you think of the Northern California Wine country, chances are you think of wine. Maybe even grapes. But not kids and not Segways. Things are changing in wine country. Visitors of all ages are welcome.

Gone are the days of leaving the kids at home. Families are on a roll and sipping their way through adventures worth bragging about to family and friends.

In a house with kids, it’s easy to lose a weekend. I’m sure you know what I mean. With homework, swim meets, birthday parties, you can forget to take some time to just relax. I can’t do it sitting at home. The list of things to do is too long, so I try to plan fun family adventures right in my Northern California Wine Country backyard.

This was one of our best summer’s yet. Splashing on a hot day at the Francis Ford Coppola Winery, riding through Chalk Hill’s Vineyards with Wine Country Trail Rides and ziplining through the redwoods. Now I can add a California Castle to the growing list.

It’s been a quiet summer for my family when it comes to travel. My girls’ schedules have dictated more stay-cation type summer adventures, but I live in the Northern California Wine Country, so I have no reason to complain.

The Napa and Sonoma Valleys has a reputation for being adult-only destinations. ‘Leave the kids with the grandparents and go’ type places. Once upon a time that may have been true.

I know many people think Napa with kids is an oxymoron, but we love to escape to the wine country at least a few times a year as a family. The colors in the spring and fall are gorgeous, and over summer months it’s an easy way to escape foggy San Francisco (save winter visits for romance) for perfect swimming weather.
