On a recent trip to the Omni Mt. Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, we looked into dog sledding. I have to admit that my kids had a thing for the movie Snow Dogs and probably watched it over 50 times; going dog sledding has always been on our wish list of activities.

We were so excited to give the summer dog sledding a try as one of the unique activities offered at Omni Mount Washington Resort.

New Hampshire’s White Mountain range provides a natural escape from summer’s heavy heat. With the cooler nights and an abundance of outdoor family-friendly activities, it is the perfect backdrop for an active family vacation. Once you are used to the somewhat remote area, there’s no need to venture out as you are in one of the prettiest and fun-filled family destinations in the Northeast.

The hotel looks like a castle perched up on a hill, surrounded by the gorgeous golf course greens at the base of the Bretton Woods ski mountain.

The Bretton Woods area is one of the best all-season outdoor recreational spots in the Northeast.

Something about summer, possibly the 95-degree weather, inspires us to run to the beaches and woods. Given that we live in Boston, we are lucky that the Northeast is full of lovely escapes.

The past few weekends have been spent in New Hampshire where ski areas are an ideal playground for summer pursuits. During our drives, I’m always shocked to see the vast expanse of towering pines—these northern woods have been a favorite destination for generations of families. It feels like summer camp and there are activities for all ages.
